While visiting my mother-in-law in Winterville N.C. my nephew stepped into a fire ant mound. His legs were covered with fire ant bites and as you can guess, he was in a lot of pain. After applying some first aid and saw that he was going to be fine, I asked my mother-in-law why she hadn’t treated the mounds. With all of her chickens, goats, dogs and cats in the yard she said she was afraid to use any poisons. “I really don’t have a choice. I’ll just have to live with the fire ants and be careful”, she said.
